Build Church Locations Relational Database (for Find a Church)
*REQUIREMENT* |
Min P. Waters
|
At GA 2005, we decided to build a relational database for the Church Locator. This will allow dynamic generation of jurisdictional and church pages as well as reduce time spent updating when church info changes. |
Snagged by the database: our developers were more familiar with ASP, but SBC only provides support for PHP, Perl, mySQL. Min. Waters is currently working this issue for the phase 3 portion of the website. An interim solution is being developed by Min Wiggins. |
|
Design and Implement Web-Based Update Form for Churches, Jurisdictions, and Departments |
Complete, but open to suggestions. |
Design webpage where people can update jurisdictional, departmental, and/or church information. Right now this will feed into an email to webmaster@clgi.org but later will feed into the church locations database (still under construction). |
The update forms can be viewed HERE and HERE. If you would like to propose a new form, please send URL of your suggested form to webmaster@clgi.org. Be sure to code “webmaster@clgi.org” into your form’s email processor or (if your form uses a database) send us the userid and password so we may try it out. |
|
Message Board Moderators |
Open |
Need more moderators for the message board. These people monitor the message board and delete errant accounts and posts. |
We are looking for someone to moderate the entire board, but if you would like to just moderate a particular forum, that’s fine too. Simply register and then send your username to webmaster@clgi.org or PM your name to Min. Janine Wiggins within the message board itself. |
|
Redesign the Downloads Page |
Closed. |
Re-design the downloads page to include international registration forms (IYYAD, etc), and other forms . |
Take a look at the new page at: http://www.clgi.org/downloads |
|
Obtain Copyright info for old CEOs
|
Min. Dale Martin |
We have obtained a large collection of old Christian Education Outlines (CEOs) but must ensure proper copyrighting before posting. |
On hold, as per Eld. Watson. This was suggested by the person who donated a large portion of the historical CEOs, in May 2005. The idea was presented to the Bishops, who agreed that we should not post these outlines until sufficiently protected. Min. Martin greased the skids on this– will be very easy. All we need now is to collect all of the CEOs and submit. Min Wiggins Tasker From Elder Watson: Scan several old CEOs and see how hard it is to convert to electronic format. |
|
Integrate a more robust Find-a-Saint into the site |
Closed, but open to suggestions.
|
Find-a-Saint originally designed by Min Travis’s group to be a standalone database– however protection of the saints’ personal data requires login. So does posting to the new message board. To make things easier, we combined the two. |
We adapted the “ memberlist” within the message board as the “Find a Saint.” Login is required to view this list. This may not work as the memberlist grows. May need to install separate script, yet still maintain one login for the overall site. This cuts out many scripts. If you know have a solution on how to improve Find-a-Saint, please send the webmaster the URL to your working script. |
|
Develop FAQ |
Open |
A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page may reduce the amount of time spent answering questions about use of the website |
A FAQ document has been created. Min. Wiggins has tried several scripts that look promising and several that do not. If you are comfortable installing php scripts and working with phpMyAdmin, you may enjoy taking over this project. If you have questions that should be added to the FAQ, send them to Min. Wiggins. UPDATE: FAQ was lost due to the Dec 05 SQL server crash. Restoring it is low priority (it wasn’t really used) but it may be handy for Bishop Smith’s “Ask the Secretary Page.” If you would like to suggest a FAQ, send the webmaster the URL to your working FAQ script. |
|
Integrate “Message Notification” into new bulletin board. |
Open– need volunteer to be our Website Newsletter Editor |
The new message board does not email saints when a new post is made, only when a reply is made to their post. Some miss this popular feature from the old MSN message board. This requires someone comfortable with MODing “phpbb.” who can also first research the pros and cons of doing this! |
First, we need to determine whether or
not we want to do this, and if so, how (send the whole message, or just a
title notification). This ability can be built into the message board, using
a “MOD” found on the phpbb support forum. Unfortunately SBC Yahoo limits the
function to 250 members, but another MOD called “Mega Mail” which should
allow us to get around this. We may not get many registrations since login
is no longer required to read and download attachments. The negative side to
this is IF we install this feature, then anyone can use the CLGI message
board as a platform for negativity, as in the past, by writing long messages
knowing that they will make it to everyone’s in-boxes. On the other hand,
some people will not know a post has been made if they are not notified.
Interim solution will be to write a “What’s happening on CLGI.org”
newsletter. We need an editor for this so volunteer! |
